Easy fix popcorn ceiling.

Often found in older homes pre popcorn era this type of textured ceiling involves cleaning and prepping the existing substrate with quick set drywall mud applying a bonding agent like joint compound and then applying a finish compound with a trowel or knife to create a new texture. Removing popcorn ceilings traditionally you remove popcorn ceilings by scraping it away one section at a time. You start the process by spraying the ceiling with water and then scraping off the texture by hand. This is a time consuming way to get rid of the old ceiling texture and it has a lot of downsides.

Painted white the subtle texture of beadboard paneling works well in traditional spaces or modern ones adding a layer of depth in an unconventional place. There are three types of aggregate you can buy for a popcorn ceiling. Fine grade medium grade and coarse grade. Only give it a light misting too much water could damage the drywall or loosen the joint tape.

Classic beadboard makes a charming ceiling treatment and not just in a rustic cottage. These grades give you a start but from there it s a matter of trial and error in terms of application.
